In
Numbers 7, we read of the various offerings which were brought to the
Lord at the dedication of the Tabernacle. In Luke 2, we read of Joseph
and Mary taking Jesus āto Jerusalem to present Him to the Lordā (Luke 2:22).
All that the people brought to the Lord had first been given to them by
the Lord. Jesus has been to us by the Lord. All that we give to the
Lord is given as our response to His great gift of Jesus. As we consider
Jesus Christ who has tabernacled Himself among us (āthe Word became
flesh and dwelt among usā), we will say, with the Psalmist, āmy soul
will rejoice in the Lord and delight in His salvationā (Psalm 35:9).
What God did for His people, Israel, was very great. There is a striking contrast between their slavery in Egypt and their abundance in the promised land. God had multiplied His blessing upon them, just as Jesus did when He turned water into wine (John 2:1-11). If the blessing is to be maintained and increased, we must honour the Lord. We must cry to Him for blessing: "Hear my prayer, O God, listen to the words of my mouth." We must call upon Him with faith: "Surely God is my help; the Lord is the One who sustains me" (Psalm 54:2,4).
