Our love for God - a response to His love for us

Song of Solomon can be read at two different levels. At the human level, it’s a celebration of the love between a man and a woman. At the spiritual level, it inspires us to appreciate, more truly and more fully, the great love which Christ has for us. As we grow in our awareness of Christ’s amazing love for us, we are called to love Him more. His love comes first. We must never forget this. His love is an everlasting love. Our love for Him can never be any more than a response to His love for us.

Praying Through God’s Word: Song of Solomon

Song of Solomon 1:1-17 Lord, You’ve called us to be the Bride of Christ: “a pure Bride”, a Bride beautifully dressed” for our Saviour – “the Bride, the wife of the Lamb” (Ephesians 5:25-33; 2 Corinthians 11:2; Revelation 21:2,9). May we hear the voice of Jesus, saying to us, “You are beautiful, my love.” May we worship Him: “You are beautiful, my Beloved, truly lovely” (Song of Solomon 1:15-16). Song of Solomon 2:1-17 We thank You, Lord, that Jesus comes to us in love: “the voice of my Beloved! Look! Here He comes” (Song of Solomon 2:8). We thank You that He calls us to come to Him: “Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come away” (Song of Solomon 2:10). He calls us to belong to Him – to have the assurance of salvation, which has this joyful testimony: “My Beloved is mine, and I am His” (Song of Solomon 2:16). Help us, Lord, to receive the love of Jesus, and to rejoice in His love. Song of Solomon 3:1-4:8 We thank You, Lord, that Jesus says to us, “Seek and you will find...

One Year Bible: Day 231- Song of Solomon 5:1-8:14; 1 Corinthians 12:27-13:13; Psalm 100:1-5

There is physical love (Song of Songs). There is the love spoken of in 1 Corinthians 13. There is the love of God - “For the Lord is good and His love endures for ever” ( Psalm 100:5 ). The more we consider what the Scriptures say about love, the more we realize that ‘love is a many-splendoured thing.’ To understand love, there needs to be a response of love arising from our hearts. Touched by love, we learn to love.

One Year Bible: Day 230 - Song of Solomon 1:1-4:16; 1 Corinthians 12:1-26; Psalm 99:1-9

God uses the physical as an analogy of the spiritual. In 1 Corinthians 12, “the body” symbolizes the Church. In Song of Songs, the theme is physical love. By the Spirit of God, the physical language points beyond itself by using imagery which is suggestive of deep spiritual truth. What is happening in the heavenly realms always has great relevance to what is going on here on earth: “Great is the Lord in Zion ; He is exalted over all the nations” ( Psalm 99:2 ).
