One Year Bible: Day 51 - Exodus 27:1-28:43; Mark 5:21-6:6a; Psalm 24:1-10

"Whenever Aaron enters the Holy Place, he will bear the names of the sons of Israel over his heart" (Exodus 28:29). This bearing of the names on the heart is seen supremely in Jesus. He was not prepared to let the woman, who had touched the hem of His garment, slip away unnoticed. Jesus wanted to her personally - ā€œDaughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your sufferingā€ (Mark 5:34). He bore her name on His heart of love. The Lord, who bears us on His heart, is the God of perfect holiness: ā€œMake a plate of pure gold and engrave on it as on a seal: HOLY TO THE LORDā€ (Exodus 28:36). ā€œWho may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in His holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heartā€ (Psalm 24:3-4). There is only One who meets these requirements - our Lord Jesus Christ. The Gospel proclaims that this Saviour, perfect in holiness and perfect in love, shares the blessing with us.

Let Us Pray For More Of God's Blessing.

What God did for His people, Israel, was very great. There is a striking contrast between their slavery in Egypt and their abundance in the promised land. God had multiplied His blessing upon them, just as Jesus did when He turned water into wine (John 2:1-11). If the blessing is to be maintained and increased, we must honour the Lord. We must cry to Him for blessing: "Hear my prayer, O God, listen to the words of my mouth." We must call upon Him with faith: "Surely God is my help; the Lord is the One who sustains me" (Psalm 54:2,4).

God’s Blessing .

ā€œThe Lord blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sakeā€ (Genesis 39:5). God’s blessing overflows. We go back to Genesis 39:2 – ā€œthe Lord was with Joseph.ā€ God was blessing Joseph – and His blessing overflowed to others.

Reaching out with the Good News of Jesus Christ

ā€˜Reconciled’ to God through Christ, we have received ā€˜the ministry of reconciliation.’ Saved by Him, we are to ā€˜work with Him.’ We are ā€˜not to accept the grace of God in vain’ by living for ourselves. We are to be ā€˜ambassadors for Christ.’ We must proclaim the urgent message of salvation - ā€˜now is the acceptable time, now is the day of salvation.’ We must call men and women to respond to God’s message of salvation: ā€˜Be reconciled to God’ (2 Corinthians 5:18-6:2). If we are to be effective ā€˜ambassadors for Christ’, we must dedicate our lives to Him: ā€˜Let us cleanse ourselves… and make holiness perfect in the fear of God’(2 Corinthians 7:1). Without this heartfelt commitment to godly living, we cannot really serve the Lord at all. Our wrong lives will drown out our ā€˜right’ words. We need true lives as well as ā€˜true’ words.
