What a transformation there is when “the Spirit is poured upon us from on high” (Isaiah 32:14-15). The blessings which God pours upon us are well summed up in 2 Corinthians 13:14
- “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God, and the
fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” How are these ongoing
blessings communicated to us? - These blessings come to us through “true
and reliable words” (Proverbs 22:21).
These blessings come to us from the God of perfect wisdom. His
teaching is both present and personal - “I teach you today, even you” (Proverbs 22:19).
What God did for His people, Israel, was very great. There is a striking contrast between their slavery in Egypt and their abundance in the promised land. God had multiplied His blessing upon them, just as Jesus did when He turned water into wine (John 2:1-11). If the blessing is to be maintained and increased, we must honour the Lord. We must cry to Him for blessing: "Hear my prayer, O God, listen to the words of my mouth." We must call upon Him with faith: "Surely God is my help; the Lord is the One who sustains me" (Psalm 54:2,4).
