Sometimes, when we’re going through the mill, it can be difficult to see God in the things that are happening to us – but that doesn’t mean that He isn’t there. It just means that we can’t see Him. We’re looking for Him, but we can’t find Him. Is He hiding from us? Is He trying to confuse us? No! He’s waiting in the background – “From a distance, God is watching us.” When we see nothing but clouds in our sky, we must keep on believing that the sun is waiting to shine. God is there. His Son is there. His Spirit is giving us the strength that we need. There is light at the end of the tunnel. God is leading us out of our dark times. He’s leading us to the place, where we will see that He never left us. He was there all the time, leading us to the place where we will say, “God meant it for good.”
What God did for His people, Israel, was very great. There is a striking contrast between their slavery in Egypt and their abundance in the promised land. God had multiplied His blessing upon them, just as Jesus did when He turned water into wine (John 2:1-11). If the blessing is to be maintained and increased, we must honour the Lord. We must cry to Him for blessing: "Hear my prayer, O God, listen to the words of my mouth." We must call upon Him with faith: "Surely God is my help; the Lord is the One who sustains me" (Psalm 54:2,4).
